A macska hátborzongató képessége

„Van egy titkos harcművészeti Dansho, a „Neko no Myojutsu” („A macska hátborzongató képessége”), amit Issai Chozan írt, s a következő tanmesét tartalmazza: „Egy harcos megbetegedett a házában élő nagy patkánytól. Próbálta rávenni a házimacskáját, hogy fogja meg, de az vesztett az ütközetben, s tépetten tért vissza. Ezután a szomszédságból eresztett el néhány macskát, mind különösen marcona benyomást keltett, mégis, mind futva tértek vissza; farkukkal a lábaik közt.

Végül eszébe jutott, hogy hat vagy hét házzal odébb, élt egy szokatlan, vén macska, úgyhogy elment érte, hogy kölcsönkérje. Ez a macska igencsak lazán, nyugisan cammogott be, de mégis a kemény patkány megrettent tőle, s minden probléma nélkül el lett fogva.” Hogy megértsük ezt a történetet, fontos, hogy észrevegyük, hogy a macska nem egyszerűen csak könnyed volt: rendelkezett a Heijoshin-nal, tökéjre fejlesztette az élet és halál tanát, s tudta hol van a halál helye(eredetileg dying spot, azaz szószerint halálozó pont szerepel az angol szövegben).”

„There is a secret martial arts Densho called “Necko no Myōjutsu” (“The Cat’s Eerie Skill”), written by Issai Chozan, which contains the following fable. A certain swordsman was plagued by the presence of a large rat in his house. He tried to get his pet cat to catch it, but it lost the confrontation and returned in tears. Next he released some cats from the neighborhood, each of which gave the appearance of being exceptionally tough, but they all came running back with their tails between their legs.

Finally he recalled that some six or seven blocks away their lived an unusual, aged cat, and went to borrow it. This cat strolled in at quite a leisurely pace, yet the strong rat cowered and was caught without any difficulty. In order to understand this story, it is important to realize that the cat was not simply light on its feet: it had Heijōshin, it had mastered the principle of life and death, and it knew where the dying spot was.”
