A Budo az irány az élethez, s a készenlét a tudatosság ismeretére

A Budo az irány az élethez, s a készenlét a tudatosság ismeretére
„A Budo az irány az élethez, s a készenlét a tudatosság ismeretére (shiki, 識).
– Masaaki Hatsumi, Japán kardvívás-A samurai titka
„Budo is the direction to live and the readiness to know consciousness (shiki, 識). Consciousness also takes the form of the four seasons (shiki, 四季), commands (shiki, 指揮), palpitations of death (shiki, 死悸 ), morale of the troops (shiki, 士気), rhythm of poetry (shiki, 詩悸) and the capacity of man (shiki, 士器).
If you try to rely on the common opinion of history and books, then you will not be able to see the reality of history.   Furthermore, in history, many varying opinions and eccentric views are mixed together, and new theories frequently emerge. Therefore, it becomes very difficult to distinguish truth from falsehood.
…I seek to express the importance of abandoning this kind of general common sense and opinion for a moment, and instead looking at the true form of things. Nonetheless, if one does not have real training, then doing this will amount to nothing.”

„Tudod-e milyen tea ez? …Ha méreg lenne, mit tennél?”

"Tudod-e milyen tea ez? ...Ha méreg lenne, mit tennél?"

„A régi időkben, gyakran látogattam Takamatsu Sensei otthonát, s a felesége mindíg felszolgált némi teát. Igazán szerettem inni a teáit.

– Masaaki Hatsumi, A Ninja edzés nagymester-könyve

„In the old days, I often used to visit Takamatsu Sensei’s home, and his wife would always serve tea. Each time she did so, she would say where it came from: „This tea is one grown in Uji,” or „This is the tea of Shizuoka,” in her old-fashioned way. On some days, she would make tea fifteen or twenty times, and every time it would be a different kind. I really used to enjoy it, drinking her teas.

One day, all of a sudden, Takamatsu Sensei challenged me, „Do you know what kind of tea this is?” I was quite taken aback by this. „If it were poison, what would you do?” he went on. Indeed, you can’t protect yourself against every poisonous substance by tasting it and remembering the taste. It’s a matter of the sensitivity of your taste buds, a matter of perception. And as you develop this sensitivity, you get to realize what should not be eaten or drunk.”

A két út (nido ニ道) nehéz út (nido 荷道).

– Masaaki Hatsumi, A Budo esszenciája

„Around the world, throughout history, the sense of those fighting played out like a drama of that particular period. It was weathered and changed by times. This “sense” was just like a wind-pollinated flower, and by chance Bushido flourished in Japan. As one continues in training, however, Bushido becomes like a one-way ticket that can be cruel and can lead to mistakes in judgment about life.

Depending on the period, there is also the danger of being swallowed by a wave, a type of surge about which nothing can be done. In this situation, I experienced how to live truthfully through the kyojitsu of Budo and Bugei.

Unless you have the kyojitsu of two ways—transforming the literary (academic) and martial (bunburyodo 文武両道) into artistic and martial (bugeiryodo 武芸両道)–you will not attain the meaning of the gokui. Two ways (nido ニ道) are a heavy road (nido 荷道). Amongst Tokugawa Ieyasu’s famous wise words were these: “The life of a person is like traveling a distant road carrying a heavy load. Do not hurry.” These words should be a warning to those who drive recklessly.”

– Masaaki Hatsumi, A Ninja edzés nagymester-könyve

„I think it’s obvious that dietary habits differ from country to country. But one thing that is important is to know what a great effect diet has on a person’s character and on health. Food and health, food and character. It’s often said that if children eat a lot of junk food, it tends to make them rough and violent.

And if they eat only meat, for example, they can become very wild, almost like animals. That may not always be so, of course. But it seems that if they drink milk, as well as eat a lot of meat, some degree of balance may be achieved, so that their behavior is more controlled, especially if they also have plenty of vegetables, and so on.”

– Masaaki Hatsumi, A ninja útja, Titkos technikák
„Bushi and Ninja are always prepared to offer their lives for the sake of their lord or village, and die serenely. It is a wonderful way to live. All worldly things are impermanent; life and death are but one. Bushidō is what runs through the Wabi and Sabi (transient beauty) of nature.
Yet I feel compelled to say that enduring to the end no matter what happens, persevering with life despite being prepared for death at any time, is actually the secret of Bushidō. This means treasuring the lifestyle of the Ninja, living as a shadow of your true purpose, and doing your utmost to survive.”

„A Budou területein belül a semmi a legfontosabb dolog.

– Masaaki Hatsumi, A Ninja edzés nagymester-könyve

„In the field of budo, it is nothingness that is the most important thing. After all, if you show nothing, pretend nothing, think nothing, are nothing, there is no way for you to be caught by the opponent’s attack. Moreover, you can move without letting the opponent know what you are going to do.

We call that „emptiness.” Emptiness exists, but it does not make its presence known—the opponent is not given any hint. In the martial arts, this is the most important thing for staying alive. That’s what being fifth dan means.”

– Masaaki Hatsumi, A Ninja edzés nagymester-könyve

„In the structure of human consciousness, if we were to represent the subconscious by a value of 9, then the conscious awareness would have a value of 1; and when a person reaches fifth dan, he then begins to enter the world of the subconscious. From shodan to fourth dan, a person is working with conscious awareness, rather than the subconscious, over those four steps.

But then, if we represent the conscious by 4 rather than 1, then the subconscious must be represented by 4 times 9. That’s 36—thirty-six stages in the subconscious! So there is the old Chinese proverb, „Instead of thinking of thirty-six different ways of fighting, the best course is just to run away” (discretion is the better part of valor), which I believe is a response to a subconscious instinct. That is what the expert ninja really does. Do you understand that?”

Hogyan segíthet a a taijutsu a fizikai szinten túli tulajdonságok fejlesztésében?

Szóval mi is a taijutsu akkor?

– Masaaki Hatsumi, A Ninja edzés nagymester-könyve

How can taijutsu help in the development of aspects beyond the physical level?

„It’s not so much a question of aspects beyond the physical, but rather, the thing is to bring the taijutsu and the mental and spiritual side of a person into harmony, like yin and yang. With this, one can switch between power and gentleness, between positive and negative. This may be a little difficult to comprehend, I’m afraid.

So what is taijutsu, then? Obviously, it’s a matter of moving physically, but at the beginning one moves because the mind—the conscious mind—tells the body to move in a certain way.

Sooner or later, the subconscious takes over this function, and the person moves more instinctively. But of course it’s no good if the movements of taijutsu become mere conditioned reflexes. So there’s that difference. And there’s a balance between subconscious taijutsu and conscious taijutsu, but it is the subconscious taijutsu that is the more important.”

– Masaaki Hatsumi, A budou esszenciája

The jutte and enlightenment

„Make the kata of the Jutte come alive through the unconscious (written here as a pun for military awareness; 武意識), and couple that with things you must not miss…. I am often told that in fighting, enlightenment is at your feet, and that brings to mind the classic book of Japanese prose knnown as The Narrow Road to the Interior.

Be like a travelor who wanders for a time of one hundred generations; rather, know that enlightenment is here as well as also over there. When engaged in combat with the Katana, spear, Naginata, and the sword, know that there are times when they can be cut and broken, but you are able to be enlightened with the feeling of the Jutte, your life will pulsate and undergo a complete change. It is the same with Bojutsu, Hanbojutsu, and Zajutsu.

The character of ju (十) resembles a clear plus sign, a positive, a power of language that makes it possible to change into anything—martial arts create multiple possibilities.”

– Masaaki Hatsumi, A ninja útja, Titkos technikák

„In my opinion, the universe and human beings are connected: that’s all there is to it. I think you obtain a much truer view of the universe by stating actual perceptions, commenting on how beautiful it is to see a crescent moon peering betw een the clouds, or talking of how gloomy the overcast sky is today, and how pleasant the weather is after a storm.

The secret is to let your own existence resonate with the universal consciousness, and think of the universe that way. It is so important to feel an emotional or sensory engagement. Scientists and researchers keep changing their theories, about the universe as well as other things. Views on how literature ought to be read and interpreted change just as frequently. People’s needs change too, from time to time.

Thus, many scholars are unable to determine what is genuine, where the truth lies. If you persevere in Ninjutsu as I have done, you will come to discern the ocean of difference that lies between things seen with true eyes, observed using the intuitive “feeling” you develop in this art, and those seen through the glass eyes of people who have not trained at all.”
